Iceberg innovations to make financial services more accessible

Kakao Pay, Korea’s mobile payment and financial services provider, wanted a more scalable data platform to improve data quality, analytics, governance, and security while meeting strict compliance needs. With Cloudera and Apache Iceberg, it aimed to better manage real-time and batch data, support data-driven decisions, and make financial services more accessible.

Cloudera helped Kakao Pay modernize its platform so it could query, update, and delete data at the row level in Apache Iceberg tables, while also using snapshot recovery for accidental deletions. The results included about a 30% improvement in query performance, more efficient independent scaling of compute resources, and lower hardware costs.
