Hotels.com, a global lodging reservation site with 90 localized websites and millions of users, struggled to turn vast, multilingual search and clickstream data from diverse devices and journeys into actionable insights. Its legacy relational data warehouse couldn’t scale to support the volume and complexity of SEM-driven data needed to shorten the gap between search and booking and to run multiple analytics use cases.

Hotels.com migrated its data platform to an on‑premise Apache Hadoop-based Hortonworks Data Platform, creating a data lake that unifies customer profiles, search criteria, device and behavior data. This enabled more frequent analytics (from daily to multiple times per day), better marketing attribution and clickstream mapping, a path toward real‑time streaming, and hundreds of new data-driven applications—improving personalization and the overall booking experience.
