Hospital Authority's data-driven healthcare revolution with Cloudera is extending lifespans

The Hospital Authority, which oversees 43 hospitals in Hong Kong and manages more than 9 million patient records, needed a better way to consolidate data from over 30 source systems during the COVID-19 era. It turned to Cloudera Base on premises to streamline storage and manage both structured and unstructured patient information, helping clinicians access current records and spot bottlenecks in patient admission and discharge.

Cloudera helped the Hospital Authority build critical platforms including the Hospital Command Center, Smart Patient Listing, the Antibiotics Stewardship Program, and the AIDA analytics platform. The results included a drop in A&E admission wait times of four hours or more from about 12% in Q4 2022 to around 3% in Q3 2024, along with improved visibility into patient flow and a stronger foundation for real-time analytics and AI-driven care.
