Case Study: GlaxoSmithKline achieves months-to-minutes clinical analysis and faster drug R&D with Cloudera

A Cloudera Case Study

Preview of the GlaxoSmithKline Case Study

GlaxoSmithKline saving lives and improving profitability with big data analytics

GlaxoSmithKline (GSK), a global pharmaceutical company with R&D centers and 87 manufacturing sites worldwide, faced long, costly drug development cycles and fragmented R&D data spread across thousands of silos. To cut time-to-market, reduce costs, and improve drug safety, GSK needed a platform that could ingest both structured and unstructured data and deliver enterprise-grade analytics across the R&D pipeline.

GSK built an R&D Information Platform using Cloudera, partner tools and homegrown components to unify over 5 PB of data from more than 2,000 sources. Standardized, analytics-ready clinical and genomics data now lets teams run analyses in minutes instead of months, perform association studies on cohorts of ~500,000 people, and speed participant selection for trials—driving faster discovery, lower costs, stronger safety oversight, and shorter time-to-market.
