Enhancing Airport Operations with an Open Data Lakehouse

Halifax International Airport Authority (HIAA), the eighth busiest airport in Canada, needed a better way to unify scattered data after COVID-19 to track recovery, improve safety and efficiency, and support a better passenger experience. Working with Cloudera on Azure, HIAA sought a governed, cloud-first data platform that could centralize information from internal systems and external sources into a single source of truth.

Cloudera helped HIAA build an open data lakehouse with Apache Iceberg, integrating real-time data, removing silos, and improving governance and flexibility. The airport automated 85 data pipelines, cut a one-year goal down to six months, and now runs predictive analytics with 94% accuracy, enabling faster decisions and better resource planning.
