eMAG, a fast-growing online marketplace in south-eastern Europe, faced a fragmented analytics landscape that slowed growth: BI tools were built from disparate open-source components, data lived in silos and shadow IT created divergent processes, and analysts spent weeks exporting reports to Excel to build datasets. These bottlenecks made it difficult to scale AI/ML initiatives and delayed time to insight beyond 40 days.

eMAG migrated to Cloudera Data Platform (Private Cloud Base) in a 48-hour cutover, building a centralized data lake and unified stack (Kafka, Impala/Hive, HDFS/Kudu, Spark/Scala). The platform reduced dataset build times from weeks to hours, cut time to insight by 75% (to about 10 days), moved data science into production, increased use cases, and enabled real‑time, near‑real‑time and historical analytics for better targeting and more efficient marketing.
