edo Interactive is a marketing-technology company that personalizes offers and coupons delivered via credit/debit cards and mobile devices by connecting advertising to in-store consumer spending data. Faced with over 20 billion transactions and millions more added daily, their legacy analytics and ETL pipeline—taking nearly 30 hours to run—could not meet daily SLAs, support real-time analytics, or scale without heavy custom coding.
edo rebuilt its platform on a Cloudera Hadoop stack with Pentaho Data Integration and Pentaho Business Analytics, leveraging Hive, Impala, MapReduce and Pig for processing and delivering dashboards as a service. Implemented in five months, the new solution cut ETL time by at least 70 (often to under 8 hours and sometimes 2), reduced Hive query times to ~30 minutes and delivered sub-second responses with Impala, enabled real-time/ad-hoc reporting, removed Java coding bottlenecks, improved data integrity, and unlocked new monetization and customer-insight capabilities.
