A Cloudera Case Study
Dwango, a Japanese telecommunications and media company best known for services like Niconico Video and Niconico Live, faced rapidly growing volumes of user-generated and unstructured data and mounting infrastructure-management overhead from its open-source Hadoop environment. The company needed a cross-organizational, secure analytics platform that would scale, reduce operational burden, and free resources to focus on data analytics and business growth.
Dwango selected Cloudera to build a scalable, consolidated analytics platform using Cloudera Manager, Hive, Impala, Hue and HBase, with professional services to support migrations. The new environment now supports 200+ users across 50+ nodes, stores over 1 PB of data (about ten times prior volumes), and enabled faster, dynamic analysis, improved governance (Kerberos/authentication and audit logs), and new business uses such as marketing data for channel owners — all while avoiding a rise in operations headcount.
