A leading mobile device manufacturer and its engineering team, responsible for building phones and a popular mobile platform, faced an explosion of unstructured device data—from texts and photos to app telemetry—that their Oracle RAC enterprise data warehouse could no longer process at scale. They needed to ingest massive daily volumes, run long-range historical analyses to predict device and software performance, and rapidly detect and fix field issues without data latency.

The company deployed Cloudera Enterprise Core with RTD alongside Oracle RAC, using HBase, Hive and Sqoop to offload heavy processing and archive detailed data in CDH (with two-way transfers every 10 minutes). Processing roughly 1 TB/day and retaining up to 25 years of history, the solution enabled real-time analysis, faster rollouts, and actionable insights—most notably uncovering a hidden software bug by correlating carrier and manufacturing data and delivering immediate fixes to devices in the field.
