DISH, a US pay-television provider with about 13.6 million subscribers, faced a growing data challenge: its legacy system could not keep up with the volume of set-top box data needed for accurate audience measurement, which is critical for ad sales and personalized content recommendations.
Working with Cloudera, DISH built an enterprise data hub on Cloudera Enterprise to process set-top box data for audience measurement and Hopper-based content recommendations. The new platform enabled more precise, anonymized ad targeting and personalized recommendations, improved customer experience and satisfaction, and delivered about US$1 million in savings versus alternative approaches.
