A Cloudera Case Study
Meharry Medical College, a historic HBCU academic health science center in Nashville, sought to train students and researchers in data science to address health disparities affecting underserved populations. Smaller academic and safety-net institutions often lack the technology and resources of large systems—a digital disparity that limits their ability to ingest, analyze, and act on patient data to reduce morbidity, mortality and rising care costs. Meharry partnered with Clearsense to bridge that gap and build a Data Science Center.
Clearsense implemented an open-source, cloud-based data platform (built on Cloudera) that enables rapid deployment of predictive analytics at a fraction of traditional time and cost. The solution let researchers and clinicians run algorithms without hiring large data teams, shaving three to five years off studies, identifying patients at risk for conditions like hypertension and diabetes, and enabling more precise, less biased therapies—improving care at both the individual and population level.
