A Cloudera Case Study
A Boston-based digital advertising company built a marketing automation platform to close the gap between sensors (digital event data) and actuators (media buying) because delays of weeks to adjust campaigns were no longer acceptable. As a cost-conscious startup needing petabyte-scale storage and real-time analytics, they initially ran Apache Hadoop and custom MapReduce but found the environment increasingly hard to manage at scale.
They adopted Cloudera Enterprise Core with RTD and built a Hadoop-based learning system using HBase, Hive and MapReduce, integrated with a 100 TB Greenplum warehouse and TIBCO Spotfire. The real-time ETL, user-level sorting and machine-learning-driven media-buying enabled ingestion and analysis of hundreds of thousands of variables at 1 PB+ scale, delivering 2–3x better campaign performance, faster product rollout, and reduced operational overhead.
