Cloudera Chief Scientist Jeff Hammerbacher Teams With Mount Sinai School of Medicine to Solve Medical Challenges Using Big Data

Cloudera, a leader in enterprise Hadoop, is partnering with Mount Sinai School of Medicine under Chief Scientist Jeff Hammerbacher to apply Big Data to critical medical challenges. The collaboration aims to tackle hard problems in predicting and understanding disease by analyzing multi-scale biomedical data such as genotype, gene expression and organ health to support better diagnosis and treatment decisions.

Together they are developing scalable data-analysis software and workflows—leveraging Hadoop and Cloudera’s Data Science team—to provide real-time feedback and guidance for research and clinical care across genomes, metabolic pathways and therapeutic molecules. The project is expected to accelerate discovery and improve patient outcomes, building on Cloudera’s prior data-driven successes (for example, FDA adverse-drug-reaction analysis and Opower energy insights).
