A Cloudera Case Study
Cartao Elo, Brazil’s domestic credit card company processing over a million transactions per day (about 11% market share), needed to deliver personalized, context-aware offers in real time—for example, sending promotions to restaurant patrons during the window they’re dining. Its legacy data infrastructure couldn’t ingest IoT and social sources or scale for seasonal peaks, forcing slow, inflexible reporting that required multiple DBAs and prevented timely, contextual customer engagement.
Elo implemented a Cloudera data lake and real-time analytics stack that unifies transaction data with social, beacon/IoT, maps and weather inputs, while Cloudera Navigator provides PCI-grade security. The platform scales for peak demand, enabled rapid deployment (“zero to analytics in three months”), and supports operations, product and enablement teams. As a result, Elo now delivers real-time personalized offers that improve customer experience and has created a new revenue stream by selling behavioral insights to banks and merchants.
