Cargotec, a Finnish leader in cargo and load-handling solutions operating in more than 100 countries, set out to become a digital leader in intelligent cargo handling by using data to drive services. Faced with thousands of sensor-equipped machines and the need for remote monitoring, predictive maintenance and real-time anomaly detection, the company needed a scalable IoT platform to turn disparate operational and external data into actionable insights and new customer offerings.

Cloudera and TCS built a cloud-based IoT-as-a-Service on Cloudera Enterprise Data Hub (with Cloudera Data Science Workbench) to ingest sensor streams plus weather and other data, apply machine learning, and provide real-time analytics for diagnostics, predictive maintenance and anomaly detection. The solution improved operational efficiency (including fuel and route optimization), enabled new intelligent services and revenue models, and delivered a scalable, robust data backbone for continued data-driven innovation.
