UOB, a leading Asian bank with around 500 offices worldwide, faced rapidly growing volumes of digital transactions and siloed data that hindered timely decision-making and self-service analytics. The bank needed to transform people, processes and technology to treat data as a strategic asset, enable AI/ML use cases, and resolve discrepancies (notably in deposit views) that caused lengthy reconciliations.

UOB built the Enterprise Data Architecture and Governance (EDAG) platform with Cloudera—a centralized data lake, data marts, sandboxes and a Data Science Workbench—to eliminate silos and enable self-service analytics. The platform now manages data from 95+ systems, supports an FRR datamart aggregating 40+ sources for ~400 users and 150 reports/month, hosts 150+ sandboxes with 300+ users, and delivered measurable gains: 10% productivity improvement for Finance/Risk and a deposit analytics solution (built in <4 months) that increased productivity by 20%, boosted revenues and improved risk control.
