A Cloudera Case Study

Preview of the Bombay Stock Exchange Case Study

Bombay Stock Exchange world’s fastest stock exchange leverages real-time analytics to improve data governance and industry SLA’s

Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), Asia’s first and the world’s fastest stock exchange with a six‑microsecond response time, faced rapid data growth (~400 GB/day) and needed to centralize structured and unstructured data to shorten analysis and reporting cycles. Its legacy proprietary data warehouse was expensive and hard to scale, prompting a move to an open, scalable solution to support real‑time trading, surveillance and governance.

BSE implemented Cloudera’s enterprise data platform with Kafka and Kudu to ingest and analyze ~100,000 orders per second and deliver real‑time transactional queries and surveillance. The deployment delivered ~20× operational efficiency gains, a 70% reduction in time to generate complex reports (from six hours to ~20 minutes), strengthened security and access controls, and annual cost savings of INR 60 million (~$800K).
