Bank Negara Indonesia (BNI), a major state-owned bank in a highly competitive Indonesian market, faced rising pressure to hyper-personalize services and cross-sell retail products to its business customers. Customer data lived in separate business and retail silos, credit card transaction history was slow and hard to access, and a bloated data warehouse threatened extra storage costs (about IDR3 billion/year) and regulatory fines (up to IDR10 billion), while slowing analytics and reporting.

Using the Cloudera enterprise data platform (with technologies like Apache HBase and Spark), BNI migrated and optimized historical data, freed about 30 TB (20%) of warehouse storage, and sped up reporting by up to 50%. The bank launched a credit card transaction-history feature in its mobile app for faster fraud detection and next-day visibility, and a cross-selling analytics model identified over 2,500 leads with a 52% acceptance rate; storage savings and operational gains helped avoid projected costs and fines while improving customer experience.
