ATB Financial utilizing hybrid cloud to reduce the time to value for big data analytics by 90 percent

ATB Financial, Alberta’s largest homegrown financial institution serving over 750,000 customers, needed to modernize its data operations to handle greater data variety, velocity and volume while keeping sensitive customer data secure. The bank sought an enterprise data delivery platform to enable timely, trusted analytics and fraud detection and to shorten time to insight across the organization.

Working with Hortonworks and Google Cloud, ATB deployed Hortonworks Data Platform and DataFlow on GCP, integrated SAS Viya, and implemented a 40‑node HDP cluster with an HDF ingest framework and Cloud Storage Connector. The hybrid solution—designed with Hortonworks Professional Services—cut analytic run times from about 10 minutes to under one minute (a 90% improvement), enabled ML-driven personalization and stronger fraud detection, and accelerated data-driven decision making and operational efficiency.
