Analyzing credit card trends with Cloudera at JRI

The Japan Research Institute, Limited (JRI), part of the Sumitomo Mitsui Financial Group, needed a secure way to analyze highly sensitive credit card and financial data for group companies such as SMBC and SMCC. Using Cloudera’s platform, JRI built an on-premises data analysis infrastructure to handle growing payment data, support services like Custella, and safely manage analytics while avoiding cloud security concerns.

Cloudera helped JRI scale incrementally, speed up high-volume data queries, offload work from mainframes, and enable more secure data democratization through user-based masking and Active Directory integration. As a result, JRI improved cost efficiency, reduced CPU load on mainframes, and created a flexible, secure foundation for expanding analytics and future technologies like Apache Iceberg and AI.
