AMD Improves Yield Predictions with ClouderaPowered Engineering Data Warehouse

Advanced Micro Devices (AMD), a global semiconductor company that designs processors and graphics for PCs, consoles and servers, needed to give engineers faster access to much larger volumes of manufacturing test data. Their legacy RDBMS stored less than 30% of available data, kept only 3–4 months of history, relied on many integration tools and a large IT team, and had suffered a multi-week outage—prompting a search for a more agile, cost‑effective engineering data warehouse.

AMD deployed a Dell | Cloudera Hadoop solution (CDH + HBase) with a production cluster that ingests hundreds of millions of test readings daily and a custom query engine for engineers. The new platform cut query times by up to 300%, made data reloads ~60× faster, captured over 90% of data elements with 1.5+ years of history (vs. months before), simplified integration, reduced IT support needs and lowered total cost of ownership.
