A CloudEagle Case Study
Benchling, a life sciences R&D platform, faced a new security challenge after many of its 287 approved SaaS vendors quietly integrated generative AI features. The company's board needed to know which vendors were using customer data to train their AI models, a question that would have required manually reviewing the privacy policies of every single application. This created a significant blind spot, as previously vetted tools were now operating under new, higher-risk conditions without the security team's knowledge.
CloudEagle provided a solution by applying GenAI risk scores to every vendor in Benchling's portfolio. The platform identified that 63 of the 287 tools were GenAI-enabled, with 11 training on customer data by default. Using CloudEagle's filtering, the team quickly disabled AI training in 8 of those vendors in a single afternoon and restricted access to the remaining three. This gave Benchling immediate visibility and control, transforming its approach to SaaS governance.
