Signiant, a file-transfer and data-movement provider, faced rising complexity as its AWS usage grew from two to nine accounts, making cost tracking, Reserved Instance (RI) purchasing, forecasting and security monitoring time-consuming and error-prone. To address these challenges they evaluated third-party tools and adopted CloudCheckr (now part of Spot by NetApp) for RI optimization, S3 cost reporting, daily change reports, alerts and best-practice guidance.

Using CloudCheckr (initially via a risk-free trial then full deployment), Signiant automated RI purchases by feeding CloudCheckr’s Reserved Instances by Frequency data into a homegrown tool, buying 165 RIs in one operation and recouping $80,000 in five months for a 91% ROI; S3 reporting alone covered multiple months of subscription costs in the first week. CloudCheckr’s alerts and change reports also improved security visibility and gave Finance self-service access to up-to-date costs, reducing manual effort and uncovering hidden spend.
