Choice Hotels, a global hospitality franchisor with more than 7,000 locations, moved its booking infrastructure to AWS and struggled with limited visibility into deployed resources, inconsistent metadata and tagging, and uncontrolled cloud spend across teams. To address these challenges they adopted CloudCheckr (CloudCheckr CMx) to centralize cost, governance and tagging visibility and support cross-team reporting.
Using CloudCheckr’s optimization, reserved‑instance recommendations, tagging and reporting, Choice Hotels identified and removed idle and unused resources, right‑sized EBS volumes, and improved chargeback and capacity planning. CloudCheckr helped reduce EC2/EBS/load‑balancer counts from 6,000 to 4,500 (~$50K/month saved), modernize volumes saving $64K/month (~$770K/year), and remove 1,200+ abandoned resources saving $43K/month (~$516K/year); combined efforts delivered well over $1M in annualized savings while boosting governance and cost allocation.
