VMware vRealize Automation Advanced Extensibility Case Study

Delta Air Lines faced major delays and operational complexity as it modernized applications and migrated its datacenter — inconsistent VM turnaround (some users waited up to 180 days), manual “snowflake” builds, and more than six teams involved per deployment. To solve this, Delta engaged CloudBolt Software to deliver a cloud automation platform leveraging VMware vRealize Automation and Ansible Tower with integrations for IPAM/DNS (Infoblox) and F5 BIG‑IP to replace ticket-based requests with a self-service automation portal.

CloudBolt Software implemented a policy-driven, metadata-based automation solution and a Cloud Engineering team, building an automated pipeline (Jenkins → vRA → CloudBolt integrations → Ansible Tower) and dynamic, smaller blueprints to eliminate hand-offs. The platform went live in the three-month target window, enabled corporate-compliant non‑production VMs to be provisioned within 30 minutes, reduced blueprint sprawl and operational overhead, and replaced slow, manual processes with repeatable self‑service deployments.
