The Home Depot Delivers Central Platform for Hybrid Cloud Management

Home Depot, a major home improvement retailer with 385,000 employees, was struggling in 2014 with slow VM provisioning that took 1–2 weeks and a growing shadow IT problem. To address these challenges, the IT team evaluated several cloud management platforms and selected CloudBolt Software for its simplicity, extensibility, and low operational overhead.

CloudBolt Software implemented CloudBolt to automate VM deployment and enable self-service for Home Depot’s developers, using guardrails such as quotas, expiration dates, and customized order forms. The results were dramatic: provisioning time dropped from 2 weeks to under 20 minutes, shadow IT declined, and IT was freed from repetitive tasks to focus on architecture, security, and best practices. CloudBolt also helped Home Depot expand into public cloud environments like Azure and Google Cloud, with about 10,000 VMs managed through the platform.
