CGIAR empowers mobile workers by ensuring data backup and availability even in field locations with CloudBerry Managed Backup

The Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research (CGIAR) — a global network of some 10,000 agricultural scientists with an East & Southern Africa hub in Nairobi — was losing valuable research when fieldworkers’ laptops were stolen, damaged or failed to back up. Backup practices were inconsistent across offices, and roughly 40 TB of data was at risk. To address this, CGIAR turned to the CloudBerry Managed Backup Service from CloudBerry Lab.

CloudBerry Lab deployed its CloudBerry Managed Backup client across researchers’ devices (CGIAR purchased more than 1,200 licenses), automating encrypted backups to Amazon cloud storage without new hardware or upfront capacity purchases. The solution reduced IT workload, enabled painless restores in the field, delivered “anytime, anywhere” protection for research data, lowered costs through on‑demand storage, and improved response — preserving CGIAR’s critical research assets.
