Citrix, a large-scale AWS user with more than 100 accounts and over 1,000,000 configurable assets, needed a better way to manage cloud compliance across teams and cloud providers. Its security team had been using open source tools and an in-house AWS compliance solution, but faced challenges including policy customization by division, lack of exception handling, API throttling during scans, and duplicated policies across clouds. Citrix worked with CloudAware, using CloudAware CMDB, Compliance Engine, and Incident Management.

CloudAware implemented a SaaS cloud governance platform that built a centralized CMDB from AWS Config, CloudTrail, and API data, then ran more than 300 compliance policies against that inventory instead of repeatedly querying AWS. CloudAware also enabled tagging analysis, department-specific policies, automated exception handling, and routing to multiple ticketing systems, including Citrix’s in-house system. As a result, Citrix reduced administrative overhead, eliminated AWS API throttling issues during compliance checks, supported shared and custom governance across teams and clouds, and removed the need to maintain its internal AWS compliance tool.
