A Cloud4Wi Case Study

Preview of the MVTA Case Study

The Minnesota Valley Transit Authority rolls out guest WiFi to fleet of over 160 buses, keeping commuters riding happy

MVTA (Minnesota Valley Transit Authority) faced the challenge of making long suburban commutes more attractive and convenient for riders across four stations and a fleet of over 160 buses. To offer reliable, easy-to-access guest WiFi that would boost rider satisfaction without a burdensome onboarding process, MVTA chose Cloud4Wi’s product suite as a cloud-managed overlay to work with station Cisco access points and Cradlepoint in-vehicle systems.

Cloud4Wi’s product suite was deployed across stations and buses, delivering branded splash pages, multiple login options (Facebook, Google+, email), real-time analytics and centralized cloud management. The rollout improved passenger experience and engagement while providing MVTA with actionable data — 70,000 digital identities collected, 60% returning users, an average 133 MB traffic per user, peak usage at weekday commute times, and 76% of sessions from mobile phones — enabling simpler fleet-wide management and targeted future marketing.
