How Land O' Lakes is using cloud and IoT to help feed the future

Land O’Lakes, a global leader in precision agriculture, needed a better way to help farmers make hundreds of critical crop decisions with timely, data-driven insights. To address the challenge of capturing and sharing information across growers, retailers, and third-party providers, the company worked with Cloud Technology Partners and used Google Cloud Platform to build a cloud-based data collection and analytics application.

Cloud Technology Partners helped Land O’Lakes implement “Data Silo,” a secure, cloud-native system on Google Compute Engine with PostgreSQL/PostGIS support for GIS functions. The solution enabled web-based file uploads, user dashboards, faster search, and role-based access to data, improving collaboration and accelerating farm operations. The impact has been significant: Land O’Lakes says farmers are producing 650% more corn today on 13% fewer acres than 50 years ago.
