University of Strathclyde replaces rogue IT with HDS storage

The University of Strathclyde needed to replace shadow IT practices that had emerged as staff, students, and researchers ran out of secure university storage and began using local drives, memory sticks, and consumer file-sharing services. Cloud Pro, using Hitachi Data Systems’ storage infrastructure, helped support the university’s growing research needs with a solution built on NAS, SAN, and backup using Hitachi Unified Storage VM with accelerated flash.

Cloud Pro implemented the new storage environment to provide more capacity, performance, reliability, and flexibility for the university. The results were significant: storage use increased 20-fold in the first year, from 14TB to 280TB, while the IT team was able to provision resources more efficiently and improve the end-user experience for students and researchers.
