UCAS clears admission problems with move to the cloud

UCAS, the UK’s Universities and Colleges Admissions Service, needed to handle huge annual spikes in admissions traffic after a 2011 website crash and ongoing strain from its monolithic Oracle-based back-end. With millions of applications and a critical clearing period, UCAS turned to Cloud Pro and its cloud platform services, including Azure, to improve scalability and resilience.

Cloud Pro helped UCAS rebuild the service into a year-round Azure-based system that could shift modes during key admissions periods and was redesigned for better usability and accessibility. The new approach relieved pressure on the back end, improved support for applicants and universities, and made the service far better suited to extreme demand during Results Day and clearing.
