Tesco Bank moves to AWS cloud in just eight months

Tesco Bank needed a faster, more flexible way to deliver infrastructure and support new digital services, after realizing its traditional on-premise model could not keep up with its need to innovate and “fail fast.” Its cloud journey began with a simple landing page for the closed Tesco Compare site, then expanded to other applications, including the Tesco Drive car insurance app. Cloud Pro, using AWS cloud services, helped the bank move from a standing start to cloud-enabled delivery in just eight months.

Cloud Pro implemented compliant AWS virtual private clouds, production workloads, and a hybrid setup extending Tesco Bank’s data center into AWS. The results were significant: a landing page that would have cost more than £3,000 on-premise cost £66 per month on AWS and was live in a week, while a static page later cost just 13p per month. Cloud Pro’s work helped Tesco Bank make cloud “business as usual,” with multiple internal and external applications now running in production on AWS.
