Saving money: Coventry University cuts £1m through virtualisation

Coventry University faced pressure to cut IT costs while improving services for students and staff, so it explored virtualisation options including Hyper-V, Citrix VirtualBox, and VMware. Working with Cloud Pro and Microsoft technologies such as Windows Server 2008 R2 Datacenter, the university aimed to centralise IT, support business-critical applications, and create a more efficient private cloud environment.

Cloud Pro helped Coventry University implement a virtualised infrastructure built on Windows Server 2008 R2 Datacenter, Hyper-V, and Microsoft System Center. The result was about £1 million in savings, management of more than 280 servers from a central console, and server provisioning reduced from three months to just one day, while also improving standardisation, control, and uptime.
