Peterborough City Council moves IT to AWS cloud

Peterborough City Council was under pressure to close a £25 million budget gap caused by government funding cuts, so it looked for ways to improve efficiency and support mobile working. The council evaluated options including Sungard and AWS, with Cloud Pro covering its move to cloud-based IT and AWS infrastructure.

Cloud Pro reports that Peterborough City Council chose Amazon Web Services and began migrating its server estate, alongside tools such as Box, Okta, and a rebuilt Citrix farm. The move was driven by lower pay-as-you-go costs and better availability, and the council planned to shift 280 more servers to AWS while retiring legacy applications and cutting paper-based processes to deliver further savings.
