Northern Ireland education turns to the cloud

Northgate Managed Services (NMS) was selected to deliver one of the UK’s largest cloud education projects in Northern Ireland, replacing a fragmented set of managed service contracts from multiple suppliers. The challenge was to create a single, consistent education network for 1,200 schools and 350,000 teachers and students, with easier access to learning resources across devices, backed by Cloud Pro’s cloud-based approach.

Cloud Pro helped NMS implement a hybrid cloud solution using VCE Vblock Systems, combining Cisco networking, EMC storage and security, and VMware virtualization, alongside SaaS services such as Pearson Fronter, Office 365, and Google Apps. The result was a standard, device-independent service with single sign-on through Northgate’s My-School portal, delivering a more flexible platform and a standard service at a standard price across Northern Ireland.
