Janet goes for hybrid cloud to improve disaster recovery

Janet, the UK’s educational technology backbone, needed a more resilient and cost-effective disaster recovery strategy while also speeding up deployment for internal teams. Its existing recovery site was stable but expensive to maintain, and the IT team wanted to free up time and resources for higher-value support work. Janet evaluated Cloud Pro’s Dell vCloud and related cloud services as part of its move toward hybrid cloud.

Cloud Pro helped Janet run a pilot using Dell vCloud, with guidance on connecting the existing VMware-based environment to the cloud. The rollout took less than 10 hours of staff time, and Janet found it could save hours per server versus deploying physical machines. The trial also showed the cloud could improve scalability, reduce procurement cycles, and deliver a more efficient disaster recovery setup, leading Janet and JISC to sign deals to continue using Cloud Pro’s vCloud.
