Comic Relief looks to cloud to support fundraising

Comic Relief, the charity behind Red Nose Day and Sport Relief, needed an overhaul of its fundraising systems to handle huge spikes in donations across online, phone, and mobile channels. With support from Cloud Pro and partners, it moved from an organically built setup to a cloud-based infrastructure that could cope with growing demand and keep payments flowing even if components failed.

Cloud Pro helped Comic Relief deploy a Cloud Foundry-based platform across AWS and Carrenza, with backup support from BT, payment services from Worldpay, Stripe, and PayPal, and additional hardware from HP. The result was a more resilient donation engine that handled £78 million in donations on Red Nose Day 2015, and the same cloud infrastructure is now ready for future events such as Sport Relief 2016.
