Cancer Research UK stands up to heavy traffic with cloud

Cancer Research UK needed a secure, PCI-compliant way to handle a sudden surge of online donations during Channel 4’s Stand Up To Cancer telethon. Its existing infrastructure could not easily scale up and down for the short, intense traffic peaks, so it turned to Cloud Pro for cloud hosting for the donation website.

Cloud Pro provided a scalable secure cloud infrastructure that supported the campaign’s donation platform, integrated with WorldPay and PayPal, and scaled across 14 web servers at peak. The site handled 38,000 transactions in total, including 16,000 credit card and 14,000 PayPal transactions during the live show, while load testing showed capacity for up to 300 transactions per second. Cancer Research UK also reported significant savings by only paying for what it used and avoiding additional PCI implementation costs.
