Shell, an international energy company, sought to enable direct mobile and digital payments at their gas stations across Europe for both pump and indoor transactions without costly hardware changes to their existing infrastructure. To address this challenge, they partnered with Cloud Payments.

Cloud Payments implemented a software-based financial switch that integrated with Shell's systems, facilitating secure back-end communications between customer smartphones and station pumps. This solution required no physical hardware upgrades. As a result, Shell successfully expanded its pay-at-the-pump program, with Cloud Payments helping to process over 1.5 million transactions in the EU across thousands of stations in the Netherlands, Germany, and the United States.
