Case Study: Verizon Media standardizes and secures its cloud native platform with Cloud Native Computing Foundation technologies

A Cloud Native Computing Foundation Case Study

Preview of the Verizon Media Case Study

With an eye toward standardization and security for its media brands, Verizon Media turned to cloud native

Verizon Media faced a challenge standardizing and securing its diverse portfolio of media brands, which were managed by many teams using disparate, non-containerized tools and a cumbersome in-house deployment platform. This situation hampered productivity and velocity. To address this, they partnered with the Cloud Native Computing Foundation ecosystem.

The solution involved adopting Kubernetes as the orchestration layer for a new containerized, immutable infrastructure. By leveraging Kubernetes and other CNCF technologies like Prometheus and Jaeger, and by building the open-source Athenz security platform, Verizon Media standardized deployments and embedded zero-trust security. The Cloud Native Computing Foundation solution led to a 20% increase in cluster utilization, with the platform now managing 1,400 services and handling 2 million requests per second at peak.
