Using Network Policy to Build Data Sandboxes at Bloomberg

Bloomberg, a technology company serving the finance industry, sought to enhance data security for its BQuant Enterprise platform. Their challenge was to protect sensitive financial data by restricting automated data egress and controlling customer resource access within their cloud data sandboxes. They turned to the Cloud Native Computing Foundation project Cilium for a solution.

By implementing Cilium, Bloomberg replaced its basic cloud CNI to leverage advanced host-based and Layer 7 network policies. This allowed them to effectively restrict data egress and build a secure access control system for their data sandbox storage. The Cloud Native Computing Foundation's technology provided robust security that prevented unauthorized data access and egress, while the Hubble observability tool simplified network debugging and saved engineers valuable development time.
