A Cloud Native Computing Foundation Case Study
Rabobank, a multinational bank in the Netherlands, faced a challenge when migrating its API platform to Kubernetes. The bank's platform team of five needed to support 400 teams but found that default Kubernetes network policies only supported IP whitelisting, which was not secure, scalable, or maintainable for their environment. They required a solution that enabled FQDN-based network policies to automate security and accelerate their migration.
The vendor, Cloud Native Computing Foundation's project Cilium, provided the solution. By implementing Cilium as their CNI, Rabobank gained FQDN-based network policy support and observability through Hubble. This allowed them to create a fully automated, self-service, zero-trust security model. The result was a faster migration for all 400 teams, significant savings on licensing costs, and a platform that is now easier to maintain and troubleshoot.
