Meltwater's Live Migration to Cilium for Richer Features

Meltwater, a global media intelligence company, faced networking challenges within their Kubernetes platform including performance issues, AWS API rate limiting, and a lack of features and observability with their original AWS VPC CNI. They sought a solution from the Cloud Native Computing Foundation (CNCF) project Cilium that offered a rich feature set, strong community support, and a solid technical implementation.

By implementing the CNCF's Cilium, Meltwater performed a live migration to replace their CNI, which eliminated AWS API rate limiting and improved performance by replacing kube-proxy. The solution provided enhanced network observability through Hubble and reduced their IP address consumption. Cilium is now the default CNI across all of Meltwater's clusters, creating a more stable, cost-effective architecture with a comprehensive set of features for the future.
