How JD.com uses Vitess to manage scaling databases for hyperscale

JD.com, China's largest retailer, faced a significant challenge with its extensive MySQL databases. As data grew, performance declined and operations and maintenance costs increased. To address this, they turned to the Cloud Native Computing Foundation project Vitess for a solution that would provide scalable database management and support for complex transactional data.

By implementing Vitess on their Kubernetes platform, JD.com achieved scalable cluster management for tens of thousands of MySQL containers. The solution from the Cloud Native Computing Foundation resulted in improved database scalability and elasticity, increased resource utilization, and automation that significantly reduced both labor and resource costs.
