Case Study: Ericsson accelerates 5G transformation with CNCF cloud native technologies

A Cloud Native Computing Foundation Case Study

Preview of the Ericsson Case Study

How Ericsson is leveraging cloud native to enable 5G transformation

Ericsson, a leading telecommunications company, faced the challenge of enabling new 5G business models and use cases. These demands required their networks to achieve high reliability, low latency, and greater automation while reducing the total cost of ownership and accelerating time to market. To address this, Ericsson turned to the Cloud Native Computing Foundation (CNCF) and its technologies.

The Cloud Native Computing Foundation provided the open-source technologies, including Kubernetes, that formed the foundation of Ericsson's solution. By building a cloud native dual-mode 5G Core and their own CNCF-certified Kubernetes distribution, Ericsson achieved significant results: feedback time from deployed services was reduced from weeks to hours, and upgrading microservices now takes only seconds to minutes. This transformation drastically improved automation, operational efficiency, and infrastructure utilization.
