Comcast Serving video applications to millions of customers with cloud native

Comcast, a global media and technology company, faced a challenge with its new X1 Cloud DVR service application. The complex application, with ten components requiring individual load balancers and different scaling, was difficult to deploy using its traditional virtual machine and ticketing-system infrastructure. This slow process was hindering velocity and scalability.

To solve this, Comcast worked with the Cloud Native Computing Foundation's Kubernetes project. They developed a deployment tool called Geronimo to represent the application declaratively and deployed it on Kubernetes. The Cloud Native Computing Foundation solution dramatically accelerated deployment cycles from quarterly to weekly, enabled rapid autoscaling to free up capacity, and eliminated previous infrastructure bottlenecks, empowering development teams.
