Building a Performant Networking Infrastructure with Cilium

Trendyol, a leading e-commerce platform in Turkey, faced significant scalability and performance challenges as its Kubernetes infrastructure grew. Their existing networking solutions, Flannel and Calico, were struggling to manage their large clusters and anticipated growth to thousands of nodes. They enlisted the Cloud Native Computing Foundation's project, Cilium, to serve as a new CNI that could improve performance, provide observability, and eliminate kube-proxy.

By implementing Cilium, Trendyol achieved a 40% increase in network performance according to internal benchmarks. The Cloud Native Computing Foundation's solution provided critical observability through Hubble, allowing the team to quickly debug issues and gain deep insights into network traffic. This enabled Trendyol to efficiently manage their massive scale of nearly 200,000 pods and confidently plan for future growth.
