Case Study: Booking.com speeds up service creation with Cloud Native Computing Foundation's Kubernetes platform

A Cloud Native Computing Foundation Case Study

Preview of the Booking.com Case Study

After learning the ropes with a Kubernetes distribution, Booking.com built a platform of its own

Booking.com, a major online travel company, faced a challenge with developer velocity after adopting an OpenShift platform from the Cloud Native Computing Foundation. While the initial platform provided faster infrastructure access, it abstracted away Kubernetes, creating a knowledge bottleneck for the infrastructure team and making it difficult to scale support when issues arose.

The solution, built in partnership with the Cloud Native Computing Foundation, involved creating a custom, vanilla Kubernetes platform. This required developers to learn Kubernetes, but it eliminated abstraction and empowered them. The Cloud Native Computing Foundation solution had a massive measurable impact, reducing the time to create a new service from weeks to just 10 minutes and enabling the development of 500 new services within the first 8 months.
