KONE, a global manufacturer of elevators and escalators, wanted to move beyond traditional calendar-based maintenance and address equipment issues before failures occurred. With more than 400,000 buildings served worldwide, the company needed a way to detect problems earlier and keep people flow safe and efficient, so it turned to Cloud Foundry and IBM Watson IoT analytics.

Using IBM Cloud Foundry, KONE built a predictive maintenance system that monitors 1.1 million connected elevators and escalators across 200+ performance parameters. The solution lets KONE spot malfunction patterns, supervise equipment remotely, and send technicians before breakdowns happen, with the goal of eliminating unplanned call-outs.
